CHRISTMAS FAREWELL HISTORY TEA WALK

  • London Bridge Station Borough High Street (next to Natwest Bank) London, England, SE1 United Kingdom (map)
London Tea Walk London Bridge

Where:                London Bridge
When:                 Sunday, 27 December 1.30pm
Cost:                   £35 (includes teas outside along the way) - 30% of the proceeds will go to a local school which is struggling to raise fund for its needs at the moment

As you probably know, I have been holding this group tea walk for 7 years, and I feel the time has come for me to focus on other things, such as tea ceremonies, tea courses, healing and working with women. I will offer this walk privately only from now. But I wanted to mark the occasion and to properly say good bye to it by holding the long version of it with lots of tea, storytelling and laughter.

Immerse yourself into the world of tea through this slow walk in and around London Bridge. There will be plenty of stories and fascinating facts about tea. But it will mainly be about slowing down and feeling. Connecting to Tea, and the magic it brought to people all over the world and Britain in particular. And not forgetting to enjoy ourselves in the process.

On this tea walk the main focus will be on the journey of tea, or how I call it - The Leaf – where it was born, how it came to Europe, and particularly England, how its popularity changed over time, where it was consumed, stored and sold.

We will learn:

- what the relationship between ornamental Camellia and the tea bush is

- what is the difference between Chinese and Indian teas

- how did Englishmen steal tea from the Chinese and what are they drinking now

- why it was that coffee houses and not tea houses first appeared in England

- how did the marriage of Charles II influence tea’s popularity

- which tea rooms inspired Charles Dickens

- which tea house Margaret Thatcher worked at and as who

- discover the city from a completely different angle!

.... and much more!

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

- a lot of warm clothes, as it gets cold in winter in and around London Bridge - but I can assure you that the savouring of contrast between cold air and a hot bowl of tea in your hands is worth it!

- a flask of hot water and your own bowl (but do not worry, if you do not have a bowl, I will bring one for you). I will bring tea and hot water too, but if there are many of us and it’s cold , we will need a lot of it :)

- be prepared to walk a lot and be outside

- your beautiful self and good mood !

Booking in advance is essential. This is because I need to know the numbers for the tea.
